Lekwa Local Municipality is situated within Mpumalanga province, and is one of seven municipalities in the Gert Sibande District. Lekwa Local Municipality is a category B municipality as it shares municipal executive and legislative authority with a category C municipality which is the Gert Sibande district.
The Lekwa Local Municipality, based in the heart of Standerton, invites qualified and enthusiastic individuals to apply for the position of Traffic Officers (X6). .
Position Overview:

Minimum Requirements: To be considered for this role, candidates must meet the following qualifications and skills:
- Education: Grade 12 or equivalent
- Qualification: Traffic Diploma
- Experience: A minimum of 2 to 5 years of relevant experience in traffic enforcement or a related field
- License: Valid Code EB driver’s license or higher
- Competency: Firearm competency certificate in accordance with the Firearms Control Act
- Physical and Medical Fitness: Candidates must be medically and physically fit to perform all required Traffic Officer duties
- Language: Proficiency in at least two official languages, with English being mandatory
- Technical Skills: Basic computer literacy
- Criminal Record: Applicants must not have a criminal record
- Working Hours: Flexibility to work outside of normal office hours, including during emergencies
Key Responsibilities: Traffic Officers will play an essential role in maintaining traffic flow and public safety within the municipality. Their core duties will include:
- Coordinating and overseeing activities related to traffic flow and public safety
- Monitoring local areas and responding to inappropriate behavior or non-compliance
- Enforcing traffic laws and public safety by-laws and ensuring compliance
- Preparing reports, statutory documentation, and maintaining registers
- Collaborating with local law enforcement agencies (SAPS, Fire Department, Traffic Department) to enhance safety efforts
- Performing other tasks as required to ensure smooth and efficient traffic management
Special Conditions:
- Candidates will be required to wear a uniform
- Exposure to various weather conditions as part of the role
- Ability to carry a firearm as required by the position
