Founded in 2002, the Private Security Industry Regulatory Authority (PSiRA) was established in terms of Section 2 of the Private Security Regulation Act (56 of 2001) in 2002. The operational activities and mandate of the Authority originate from the Act and regulations issued in terms of the Act.

About the PSiRA Bursary 2025
The Private Security Industry Regulatory Authority (PSiRA) is offering bursaries to assist students from the private security sector in accessing higher education. The bursary is specifically designed for employees in the private security sector, or children of those employed in the industry, to help them achieve academic success and improve career prospects.
This initiative is part of PSiRA’s broader Corporate Social Investment (CSI) program, which aims to invest in human capital development within the security industry. The bursary will provide financial support for full-time undergraduate studies and will be available for certificates, diplomas, or degree programs.
Bursary Coverage
The bursary provides tuition fee coverage for students in the following categories:
- Maximum of R25,000 per year (excluding VAT) for certificate studies at TVET institutions.
- Maximum of R45,000 per year (excluding VAT) for undergraduate diploma or degree studies.
Please note that this bursary does not cover postgraduate studies.
Eligibility Requirements
To be eligible for the PSiRA Bursary 2025, applicants must meet the following criteria:
- South African Citizenship: You and your parent (if applicable) must be South African citizens.
- Private Security Employment: You must either be employed in the private security sector or have a legal parent who is registered with PSiRA as a security officer.
- Age Limit: Applicants must be between the ages of 19 and 35 years old.
- Matric Completion: You must have completed Matric.
- Full-time Study: You must be enrolled for full-time studies towards a certificate, diploma, or undergraduate degree. The bursary does not cover postgraduate studies.
- Accredited Institution: The learning institution where you are enrolled must be accredited and registered with the Department of Higher Education in South Africa.
