Description

  • The Facilities Maintenance Officer: Carpentry and General Maintenance is responsible for ensuring the proper upkeep and functionality of the facility through skilled carpentry and routine maintenance tasks.

Duties

Carpentry Tasks

  • Perform carpentry repairs and installations, including doors, windows, furniture and cabinetry.
  • Create and install custom woodwork and cabinetry based on specific needs and drawings.
  • Carry out framing, partition construction and repairs to structural wooden components.
  • Install, repair or replace flooring materials such as wood, laminate and tiles.

General Maintenance

  • Conduct regular inspections of building facilities to identify and address maintenance issues proactively.
  • Undertake general repairs including plumbing, electrical, and minor HVAC issues.
  • Implement scheduled preventative maintenance on equipment ensuring smooth operation and avoiding breakdowns.
  • Perform painting, varnishing and other finishing tasks to keep the facility in good condition.

Health and Safety Compliance

  • Ensure all carpentry work complies with safety standards and structural guidelines.
  • Identify potential hazards within the facility and take corrective actions to prevent accidents.
  • Ensure fire doors, exits and safety equipment are installed and maintained correctly.

Stock and Equipment Management

  • Maintain tools and carpentry equipment ensuring they are in safe working condition.
  • Track stock of maintenance materials and supplies, ordering replacements as needed through the assistance of the Facility Manager or Coordinator.
  • Complete work orders efficiently and within the specified timelines keeping records of completed tasks on the Facility Tracker on SharePoint.

Communication and Coordination

  • Work closely with other maintenance staff and departments to coordinate repairs and ensure minimal disruption to daily operations.
  • Report major repairs, project progress and any additional work needed to supervisors or management.
  • Coordinate with external contractors for specialised repairs or large-scale projects when necessary.

Requirements
Education

  • Grade 12
  • Completion of technical training program in Carpentry.
  • Completion of programs related to carpentry, construction or facilities management is preferred.

Advantageous

  • Knowledge of safety standards to ensure safety compliance.
  • Certifications in specialised areas such as e.g. plumbing, electrical work, or HVAC can be advantageous.
  • Apprenticeship experience

Experience

  • One to Two years’ experience in a similar role or extensive experience in various carpentry tasks such as framing, installation of doors and windows, cabinetry and custom woodwork.

Requirements

  • SA Citizen or valid work permit to work in South Africa
  • Willing to travel to Aurum sites in South Africa
  • Willing to work overtime

Essential Requirements

  • Hands-On experience in carpentry, including framing, installation and repairs.
  • Proficiency in general maintenance tasks such as carpentry, plumbing, electrical, and HVAC maintenance.
  • Prior experience in facilities management roles
  • Ability to read and interpret construction plans and drawings.
  • Competence in using a variety of hand and power tools related to carpentry and maintenance.
  • Skills in carpentry, plumbing, electrical systems, and HVAC are essential for general maintenance tasks.
